Less is More - Hair Version

8 October 2013

Many are the promises that sell us great cosmetic and pharmaceutical brands. Do they really work? I have spent a lifetime investing more and more money on new hair products: serums, masks, heat shields, keratins, conditioners, shine vinegars... and so many others with different brands available in the market.

Obviously, this translates to a lot of money and the final result: damaged hair. Money wasted!

Our bodies are constantly changing, but there are times of the year in which the change is more pronounced, the autumn season. With autumn comes the hair loss; just like the trees change their leaves, animals their fur, we renew our hair naturally.

"There are times of the year in which the hair is exchanged more than others, and although some species moult their fur all in one season, in the case of humans this is progressive " says Dr. Ramon Grimalt, Trichology Group Coordinator of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology.

To get an idea, we have 100 hairs, 15% is under renovation. This drop is random and prevents localised baldness  ( now we see the perks of this process don't we?) because ours is a continuous renewal cycle that will last a lifetime.

Generally, the hair dies in spring and it will take three months to fall from our heads (coinciding with Autumn).

Dermatologists consultations then are filled with women scared with the thought of becoming bald. But the fact is this is a process that needs to occur in both sexes.

During these months we will be over exposed to ads on TV selling all kinds of food supplements for hair and nails, as well as lotions , shampoos and miracle cure to stop hair from falling. But the truth is, there are no miracles served in plastic pots.

That's why we're promoting natural hair therapy. Because with a greater understanding of how our bodies work comes better approaches to how to treat ourselves well without spending a fortune. So watch this space for some practical and cheap tips to getting luscious and healthy hair in no time!
