The 86th Academy Awards took place on March 2nd at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Take a look at the looks we love and hate from the 2014 Oscars.
Best Dressed
On the red carpet Jennifer Lawrence can do no wrong. She's one of the 'it' girls that everyone wants to be or be best friends with and refuses to conform. This Dior Dress fits her like a glove and the added peplum gives it an extra bit of 'oomph' making it so much more than just a red dress. Hollywood's favourite couple didn’t disappoint either! Both in immaculate evening wear; Brad of course handsome as always in a Tom Ford Tux and Angelina flaunting her enviable figure in a sheer, yet heavily embellished Elie Saab Couture gown. Sandra Bullock is rocking a navy strapless that falls so elegantly to the floor almost in waves, the drapery doing nothing but completing the look.
All these starlets show off their shape with dresses that are fitted at the waists, oozing femininity.
Above we have Meryl Streep proving that even though you might not feel in your prime you can still look it! Choosing an off-the-shoulder monochrome Lanvin dress she glams up with a jewelled waist belt.
Two more stunners of the evening were Kate Hudson and Lupita Nyong'o. Kate wears a Dior gown that looks like it was made for her; shimmering silver, the pleats fall the floor bleeding glam. The shawl very on-trend and fitting for the wintery weather that was present at the awards.
Any one that's been keeping up to date on the red carpet events of the season knows that Lupita is the one everyone is watching. New to the red carpet, this is her first year of award shows and she is doing no wrong! She dazes in a delicate blue Prada gown with plunging neckline. It's elegant, feminine & sweet, and a colour you don't see often on the carpet.
Worst Dressed
Although these beauties normally stun us all with their dresses, this year's Oscar choices just didn't quite match up!
The gorgeous Penelope Cruz shows us she is still a beauty even when her Giambattista Valli gown looks like a bed sheet wrapped round her enviable physique. Oscar de la Renta looks like he has taken his inspiration for Jennifer's dress from a tasseled lamp shade. And although Gabourey Sidibe is rocking her curves with a fierce attitude, the fuchsia textured gown doesn't compliment her shape as we have seen in the past. Although props for the bold colour choice, it has been a major trend through-out the award season.
All of that aside, the Oscars brought out some amazing garments from some amazing designers and it was a great show, most definitely entertaining.
But, with great conviction and a light hearted laugh I would like to award ‘Worst Dress of the Oscars 2014’ to ….
Ellen Degeneres; the hostess with the mostest, who is most certainly not the fairest of them all in this theatrical get up!
