How to transition into the new season

16 September

Updating your wardrobe for the new season doesn’t need to happen overnight. With the weather being so unpredictable, it’s better to take it slow. Instead of pulling out the boots and jackets as soon as September hits, check out these easy tips to ease into the season. This in-between weather is a great chance to play around with layering and mix pieces from different seasons—so have fun with it!

Don't just stop wearing your summer pieces

Just because Instagram is pushing the autumn vibes with #pumpkinspicelatte, doesn’t mean you need to jump on it right away. It really depends on where you live, summer might still be hanging around, so going full-on fall could feel a bit off. Instead, focus on dressing for your local weather and what suits your day-to-day life.

Fashion rules have also changed so you don’t have to pack away your linens as soon as summer ends. You can create fun, interesting outfits by mixing textures. Instead of putting your favourite linen trousers in storage, try pairing them with a cosy cashmere sweater for a fresh look.

Update your moodboard

You know how much I love mood boards—they're essential for your style journey. Whether you're all about Pinterest, saving outfit screenshots on your phone, or going old school with a physical board on your wall, just be sure to refresh it every season. Add new looks that vibe with your style, review what’s already there, and ditch anything that doesn’t inspire you anymore.

It’s a fun way to get excited for the new season, spot trends you might want to try, or figure out what’s missing from your wardrobe.

Try on your favourite fits from last year

This will help you remember what outfit formulas worked for you last year, so you can keep wearing them!

Go to your moodboard to find some inspiration to switch them up a bit, maybe you can add different accessories or create other colour combinations.

Start making a wishlist

But don’t shop just yet! The season has literally just started! Unless you are in dire need of something specific, avoid shopping until you are 100% sure of what you need and how these pieces will fit with your autumn/winter wardrobe.

One thing to try, is to take pictures or screenshots of these items and add them to your existing moodboard to see how they fit with the overall aesthetic.

Also, don’t settle for anything, be mindful of your needs, are you for example obsessing about that suede jacket that is trending? Ask yourself these questions before you buy it!

  • Would this piece go with the rest of my AW clothes?
  • Is this piece versatile enough that I can create plenty of outfits with it?
  • Does it fit with my lifestyle/the weather where I live?
  • Is it worth the hype? Or a trend that is going to fade away within months?

And remember that you can book an online styling or a free consultation with me so I can help you get ready for the new season.
